Dear DeKalb County Federation of Garden Club Members,
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your President for 2025 - 2027! I hope these next two years are exciting and productive for all of us.
The theme for the 2025-2027 term is “Let’s Grow”. We want to Grow Membership and Grow Member Participation and Grow in Knowledge of gardening and environmental issues. Our Executive Board and Committee Chairs are working hard to make sure we have lots of interesting and information programs and projects that support this theme. Many thanks to them and to our clubs and members for their support!
To Grow Membership, we need to get the word out about garden clubs. Some people think garden clubs are only for white glove-wearing, tea-drinking, very proper ladies. But we are so much more than that! We support many community service activities, which you can read about on our Projects page, and we actively support environmental initiatives.
Reach out to people you know to try to recruit them to your club. Ask them to come to one of your meetings or special events. Let them see how much they can learn and how much fun they can have while doing it! Make sure to talk to new neighbors about your clubs. In particular, we need to recruit some younger members so that the legacy of garden clubbing can continue!
Now, how do we Grow Member Participation? We need to increase the number of members who attend DeKalb Federation events. If you haven’t been participating in Federation activities, look at our list of programs and commit yourself to attending at least one! If you do regularly attend, then encourage other members of your club to come along with you. Our Leading Lights fundraiser in November, Life Membership meeting in February, and Awards Presentation in April are exciting events that offer a lot of fun, fellowship and good food!
And finally, one easy way to Grow in Knowledge is to attend our monthly DeKalb Federation meetings. We have speakers at our September, October, January, March, and May meetings, who talk about a variety of subjects. It’s a great way to learn about horticulture, landscaping, floral design, environmental issues, community initiatives, and more! Hope to see you there!
