Letter from the President of The DeKalb County Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc

Dear DeKalb County Federation of Garden Club Members,

I am excited and honored to serve as the President of the DeKalb County Federation of Garden Clubs for the 2019-2021 term.  I’m working with our dedicated and talented group of officers and committee chairmen to make this a productive, educational and enjoyable two years.

My theme for this term is “Come Grow with Us”.  We’ll be growing in many ways – growing plants, growing in our service to the community, and growing in membership and member participation.  There are two special projects planned for this term.  The first, “Restoring the Beauty”, involves renovating the landscape around the Garden Center.  Our goal is to make an attractive and low maintenance landscape that will be a source of pride to our members.  The second project is “Nurturing with Nature”.  This is a garden therapy project involving Georgia Regional Hospital.  We will provide advice and funds for creating gardens at the hospital that will be used in patient therapy.  These projects support the “Plant America” theme of The National Garden Club and the “Plant America – Nurture the Garden We Call Georgia” theme of the Garden Club of Georgia.

In planning this term’s projects, the Executive Committee and Board carefully studied your responses to the membership survey that was conducted last year.  Based on your interest in grants and awards, we have added a School Grounds Improvement grant and attached monetary incentives to many of our awards.  We also approved two new awards – one for School Grounds Improvement and the other for Holiday Decorations.

I hope everyone plans to attend our monthly meetings.  We have a great series of programs on varied and interesting topics lined up for you.  The meetings also give you a chance to socialize and learn what other clubs are doing.

Please send me any suggestions you might have on our plans or projects.  I look forward to having you “Come Grow with Us”!
