Letter from the President of The DeKalb County Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc

Dear DeKalb County Federation Garden Club Members,

I am honored to be serving as the DeKalb County Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. President for the 2017 2019 term.  I have the support of an outstanding elected board and committee chairs who are already at work striving to help make this an exciting 2 years.

My theme for this term is “Celebrating Homegrown Heroes” -- a tribute to Atlanta-area veterans, gardeners, horticulturists, firemen, policemen, landscapers and others who have made significant contributions in their respective fields.  All of our special projects for this term will reflect this theme.  “Healing Heroes” will have us working with veterans.

  • The Mini Flower Shows will be patriotic-themed. We will continue “Valentines for Vets” but will also add “Holidays for Heroes” (Christmas cards mailed to our active military overseas).
  • The Leading Lights Fundraiser will have a patriotic theme and will honor valiant veterans. We will be restoring at least one Blue Star Marker and hope to install a new marker in our DeKalb community.
  • A Memorial Wreath will be placed at the Police/Fire Headquarters in Tucker on September 11.
  • The “Plant Patriotic” special project will support the National Garden Club’s theme “Plant America” and the Garden Club of Georgia’s theme “Plant America – Georgia’s Heritage, Georgia’s Legacy”.

We are looking forward to working with all of the clubs in the Federation to make these special projects a success. Your garden club may want to appoint a chairman for DeKalb Federation Special Projects!

One way to show your support would be to sign up for one of the mini flower shows.  The dates and themes are:  January 25, 2018, “Fireworks”; October 25, 2018, “Anchors Aweigh”; and March 28, 2019, “Grateful Hearts”.

It would be appreciated if clubs would include a small donation for the Healing Heroes project in their budget. The DeKalb Federation monthly meetings are the place to be!  We are going to have very informative, varied and entertaining programs this year.  Come and share the experience with your fellow Federation friends.

I look forward to hearing from you and your club with even more ideas on how we can “Celebrate Homegrown Heroes”.

Glenndolyn Hallman, President
